Heavy metal titans METAL CHURCH will be touring Europe and the US extensively from this Friday onwards. They will once again be presenting their latest studio album »XI«, which hit the charts worldwide (Switzerland #30, Germany #34, Austria #51, USA #57 among others).

METAL CHURCH's latest album and 11th studio release »XI« was released in March 2016, and it marked the return of legendary vocalist and front man Mike Howe! »XI« was produced by Kurdt Vanderhoof and co-produced by Chris "The Wizard" Collier.

The reunion between Mike Howe and METAL CHURCH started in July of 2014 when Mike started working with Kurdt Vanderhoof on a side project he was forming with Nigel Glockler from SAXON. Through these initial conversations, Kurdt convinced Mike to ultimately return to METAL CHURCH. The idea was to see if they could recapture some of the magic from the three albums they released in the late 80's: »The Human Factor«, »Blessing In Disguise« and »Hanging In The Balance«. Out of those sessions, »XI« was born and captures the sound that made the band fan favourites in the 80's and mixes it with a new, invigorated sound for 2016.

PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES: band signs to Arising Empire


PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES are extremely happy and very proud to announce the release of their first new album since 2004.

Entitled »That Shallot«, the album is due for release on September 15th 2017 by Arising Empire, a division ofNuclear Blast.

Tobbe Falarz (Arising Empire) commented: "I am more than happy that Peter and his Test Tube Babies teamed up with us… the band is one of the most influential punk bands of all time.“

The band commented: "Peter And The Test Tube Babies are proud and happy to announce the release of their best album ever - That Shallot."

With a return to form, the majority of the songs on the album have been written by Peter and Derek together and are destined, surely, to become TEST TUBES classics.
New bassist Nick has also chipped in with two of his own songs and there are plenty of surprises in store for the lucky listeners. This is by far the band’s most diverse album and it sounds all the better for it. From the outrageously bluegrass leanings of 'Silicone Beer Gut' to the super catchy 'None Of Your Fucking Business' the band have hit the ground running and have pulled no punches in delivering their best ever album.
With contributions by Lars from RANCID and ukulele punk sensations THE PUKES amongst others, this album deserves to be huge – it certainly sounds huge! Also Olga from the TOY DOLLS helped working on it.

OMG! They’ve even written a Bond theme!

A single is due for release in the summer, prior to the album’s release in September.

THY ART IS MURDER: release first studio trailer for »Dear Desolation«


Australia’s premiere incendiary musical export, THY ART IS MURDER, will release their new album »Dear Desolation« on August 18th via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Today, the band has released their first studio trailer detailing the making of the album.

Frontman Tobias Sammet states: "Whilst collecting all of this picture material together we were once again made aware of how proud we are of what we have created. There are probably not many musicians who are lucky enough to be able to look back on a 25-year-old band history at the end of their thirties. And especially without any line-up changes in the last 20 years! This is even more incredible considering that we're not from Birmingham, New York or a German metropolis but from a small town called Fulda, a place where you normally only know about the insights of the music business by hearsay. I mean, as kids we started to play Edguy shows even before we had visited concerts as fans ourselves! Then we started to play shows outside our home town, then outside Germany and all of a sudden we found ourselves touring in Asia, America and Australia on a regular basis, because apparently there were people who liked our music. And they became more and more. For us, this always felt quite normal, the next step was all that mattered. We didn’t think about what happened while things were happening...

But if you look back now, you will realise how lucky we were! It's now time to celebrate our anniversary with our fans. We'll celebrate our quarter century with the release of »Monuments« and LIVE in some selected cities! We'll perform a best-of set list, a journey throughout our past, with a lot of fuss and at full throttle! The first quarter century is over and we want to honour these years with our fans! To the next 25 years!"

METAL CHURCH: band welcomes Stet Howland (ex-WASP) as their permanent drummer!

Fans that have seen METAL CHURCH live at their recent shows in the United States and Europe, may have noticed a new face on stage. The guy behind the kit has been none other than Stet Howland and now that the hazing process is complete, METAL CHURCH are happy to announce the addition of Stet Howland as the band’s permanent new drummer!


Vocalist Mike Howe adds, "I am overwhelmed and grateful that Stet has found his way into the fold and I look forward to many successful and joyful performances together."

Guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof compliments Stet saying, "We are extremely happy to have Stet as our new engine. He is a fantastic drummer and a great guy to work with. But the hazing shall continue relentlessly!"

Stet Howland shares his excitement about joining METAL CHURCH: "After being home for only a few days from possibly the best tour of my life, I received a conference call from Kurdt and Mike, for a split second I thought to myself 'Oh shit, what did I do?' But my concern quickly turned to an un-removable smile when they asked if I would be interested in being a permanent member of METAL CHURCH.

It's no secret that METAL CHURCH have always been one of my favorite metal bands and that, in my opinion, they are on the strongest ascent of any band in their genre! And given that the band kicks ass live, has an incredible record label, amazing publicist, a rabid fan base, relevant new music, recent Billboard chart positions and first week CD sales that rival multi-platinum acts, my answer was an unwavering "YES"!

On my maiden journey I was blown away by Mike Howe's consistent crowd destruction, Kurdt's ridiculously heavy riffs, Rick Van Zandt's refusal to make even one mistake and my glue-like bond with Steve (it's a well known fact that METAL CHURCH bass player Steve Unger is one of my closest friends and it was Steve who initially suggested me to the band).

There is understanding, mutual respect and camaraderie present here that is missing in so many "famous" acts. I am honored to be a member of such a group of people and will do my best to deliver strong performances both live and in the studio."

Do caos vem a criação, pois a criação em si é algo caótico. Sim, pois a tendência a padronizar é algo humano, e a natureza da arte em todas as suas formas é ser amorfa, buscando sempre fugir de vagas definições e regras. Por isso, muitas vezes, as pessoas tendem a não compreender estilos musicais novos ou experimentalismos. É da experiência sem fronteiras, da coragem de criar ao invés de se limitar pelos padrões, é que surge tudo de bom, que irá fazer com que o Rock e o Metal floresçam e se adaptem às novas gerações. E é assim que o quarteto INSTINCTED, de São Paulo (SP) chega com “If”, seu novo disco, pronto para quebrar regras e mostrar que novas possibilidades sempre existem para os que desobedecem regras.

Caótico, pesado, inovador, a banda pegou o estilo moderno e próximo ao New Metal que mostraram no EP “...Is All That I Am”, de 2013, e resolveram arregaçar as mangas e meter influências musicais vindas de Industrial, Rock’n’Roll, Metal, e sabe-se lá mais o que dentro de um caldeirão. E verdade seja dita: a digestão de “If” não é simples, é um disco realmente bem difícil de ser assimilado. Mas é uma questão de costume, e logo perceberá que tem uma jóia rara nas mãos, cheia de segredos que, a cada ouvida, se revelam para o ouvinte.

Sim, é isso que leu: “If” é um puta disco, digno de aplausos pela coragem em ousar.

A gravação e a produção são de Rogério Fergam (um dos quatro membros do grupo) no Liverpool Studios, com mixagem e masterização das mãos do próprio Rogério em seu home studio. O resultado é que a qualidade sonora ficou muito boa, clara ao ponto de entendermos as sutilezas de cada instrumento e dos efeitos, mas mantendo uma sonoridade densa e caótica, com bons timbres de guitarra, baixo e bateria.

Até a arte de “If” é bem diferente: toda focada em branco, com uma capa mais sinistra (uma associação do tempo com a questão da mortalidade), a diagramação é superinteligente e clara (letras pretas em um fundo branco são uma estratégia ótima para a nossa compreensão). Mas se prestarem muita atenção, todo conceito lírico do disco está à mostra: a palavra “if” vem de “se”, como se propondo um desafio: “se” ouvir e se despir de toda sua carga ideológica e limites, será que não gostará?

“If” é isso: um desafio à convicções e pensamentos, idéias e concepções às quais nos prendemos todos os dias, e muitas vezes, por toda uma vida. Aqui, impera o caos criativo, o experimentalismo, as regras foram implodidas em favor da criatividade, e isso é bom. E nas mãos desses quatro loucos (pois a genialidade tem em si um toque de anormalidade, ainda bem), o disco vem mesmo para nos ganhar de vez.

“Intensity” é cheia de caos musical, bases rítmicas que mudam do nada, com baixo e bateria alternando o ritmo inesperadamente, fora um caos de riffs e efeitos insanos e partes grooveadas/rapeadas de primeira. Teclados e baixo pulsam com firmeza, introduzindo a criativa “Ambivalent (Newton’s Cradle)”, um inferno de puro New Metal/Industrial pesado, com vocais macios se contrapondo ao peso absurdo da canção com seu ritmo hipnótico. Se querem experimentar uma mistura de ritmos musicais díspares entre si, ouça a instrumental “Katharsis”, cheia de toques regionais que surgem de forma espontânea na mistura, onde chocalhos, efeitos eletrônicos e outros criam uma canção intimista, mas com momentos grandiosos. Em “Too Late to Rewind”, reparem bem que os timbres das guitarras e do baixo estão bem mais agressivos, mas existem linhas melódicas bem acessíveis em vários pontos, fora vocais interessantes e parte quase que Progressivas no meio do pesadelo de mudanças caóticas da canção (não se apegue a nada, é a melhor forma de assimilá-la). E se ainda não conseguiu assimilar tantos contrastes, é melhor se preparar, pois é o que terá em “Evolved and Raw” mais uma vez, com contrastes de tempos mudando, vocais ferozes e outros mais suaves, partes quase jazzísticas suaves e outras de peso agressivo. O começo é mais calmo e sensível, com lindas melodias e vocais macios, e assim temos “Digital Ocean”, com uma bela linha melódica mais complexa (reparem bem no trabalho técnico do baixo), e para dar um toque extra de classe, uma participação especial de Warrel Dane que termina em um crescendo que precede a continuidade da calmaria e um belo solo surge. E lá vem muito Groove e agressividade transpirando na gordurosa e moderna “Talking To”, mas logo momentos mais brandos contrastam com uma pancada New Metal de primeira. E fechando, a linda “Essential Ignorance (Piano Version)”, um remake em piano e voz da canção do primeiro EP do grupo, que ficou linda.

No mais, o INSTINCTED veio para mostrar que caos e criatividade podem ter espaço, e estarem associados a boa qualidade, se você tiver mente aberta.

BR METAL: "A estrada para o BMU" (2ª edição)


Mais uma edição do novo evento da BMU Produções, produtora responsável pelo festival "BMU - Brasil Metal Union", que tem por objetivo principal apresentar as novas promessas do Heavy Metal brasileiro e também bandas já clássicas que nunca se apresentaram no festival. O BR METAL – "A estrada para o BMU", como o próprio nome e slogan sugerem, funcionará também como referência para o futuro cast do festival principal, uma vez que "parte das vagas" a serem escolhidas pelo público que aderir ao vindouro crowdfunding, terá como critério e base uma lista com as bandas que participaram das edições deste evento em questão.

Nesta segunda edição, que leva o tema "Brothers & SISTERS OF METAL" e será realizada em 5 de agosto (sábado) no Gillan's Inn English Rock Bar, em São Paulo (SP), foram reunidas quatro atuais grandes bandas formadas por mulheres que tocam Heavy Metal ou que tenham uma mulher como integrante chave. "Como o exemplo da banda Nervosa, que é atualmente uma das que mais levam a bandeira do Metal brasileiro pelo mundo, o objetivo do tema dessa edição do “BR METAL” é mostrar que temos várias outras bandas com mulheres que representam com louvor o melhor do nosso Metal nacional", comentou o idealizador, Richard Navarro.

A criatividade musical é uma força que não pode ser contida, a menos que um indivíduo se autocondicione a tanto. Nisso muitos e muitos bons grupos estão surgindo e mostrando trabalhos que nos deixam de queixo caído pelo que ouvimos. E digamos de passagem: o quinteto HELLPATH, de Londrina (PR) vem mostrar que a criatividade deles não parece ter limites em “Through the Paths of Hell”, seu primeiro disco.

O que vemos aqui é um Metal forte e agressivo, mas melodioso e bem tocado, algo que remete aos primórdios do Death Metal de Gotemburgo (especialmente o ARCH ENEMY) e os primeiros discos do CHILDREN OF BODOM. Mas auto lá, caras-pálidas: o quinteto tem personalidade própria pulsando em suas músicas, com uma energia envolvente, boa dose de criatividade e muita agressividade, mas sempre emoldurada por linhas melódicas muito boas.

Gravado no Organic Digital Audio, em Londrina, tendo produção, mixagem e masterização do próprio quinteto, “Through the Paths of Hell” soa bem limpo, pesado e forte. Óbvio que poderia ser ainda melhor, mas está ótimo para um primeiro disco, com timbres bem legais.

A arte do guitarrista Richard Felix para capa e todo layout ficaram ótimas, que deixa claro que a destruição do mundo vem graças as desgraças que a própria humanidade semeia em seu egoísmo. E ela retrata bem as letras conscientes do grupo.

Agora, esse disco é daqueles que se ouve e diz “PQP, que troço foda!”, pois realmente a musicalidade que flui das 10 composições que compõem “Through the Paths of Hell” é ótima, misturando Thrash, Death e Metal tradicional em uma música coesa, bem arranjada e diferenciada. Vocais guturais se alternando com urras rasgados, uma dupla de guitarras ótima com riffs agressivos e melodiosos (e que arranjos!), baixo e bateria com boa técnica e peso absurdo são os elementos que, fundidos, dão cara ao HELLPATH.

Podemos dizer que os melhores momentos do disco estão na envolvente “Liar” (peso e técnica bem equilibrados, além de riffs de guitarra de primeira e solos muito bons), a curta e mais agressiva “Seven Deadly Sins” (aqui, no meio dos arranjos mais técnicos, baixo e bateria se sobressaem bastante, mostrando boa técnica), o excelente andamento variado de “Self-Respect” e suas lindas guitarras (que duetos e bases!), o jeito quase Hard’n’Heavy de “Underworld” (belo trabalho dos vocais sob linhas melódicas muito bem arranjadas), as grandiosas partes melodiosas de “The Chamber”, o soco no queixo e pura agressividade e melodia de “Nature’s Revenge”, e a dupla arrasa-pescoços de “Blood, Rage & Fire” e “Hellpath”.

Esse quinteto ainda vai dar muitas alegrias aos fãs do Brasil, podem escrever, já que “Through the Paths of Hell” veio para marcar a memória e esmagar ossos!
